Empowering men, women, and families to make necessary life-style changes that enable them to exchange homelessness for a full and productive life is the ultimate goal of the Yolo Wayfarer Center (Christian Mission).
In 1983, a group of citizens became concerned about Woodland’s homeless and hungry and began passing out peanut butter sandwiches and bananas in sack lunches. The concerned citizens partnered with local churches and began a soup kitchen. A short time later, those volunteers could no longer just feed the homeless and send them back to makeshift cardboard covers in local parks and alleyways, realizing the need was greater. In 1985, the volunteers formally organized and created Yolo Wayfarer Center (YWC.)
Over the past 23 years, programs have been established to assure every person has food to eat; a place to sleep; dignity and hope.
YWC supports a “hand up-not hand out” philosophy in helping people stabilize their lives.
Yolo Wayfarer Center (Christian Mission) is a faith-based organization. It's mission is to feed, clothe and shelter those in need, to share the love of Jesus Christ in word and in action.
