In 2006 YWC created Yolo County's Year Round Emergency Shelter by merging the Day Services program with the Cold Weather Shelter program. Established in a newly constructed building at 207 Fourth Street in Woodland, the new program tripled the number of bed nights in Yolo County.
The Shelter has capacity for 72 homeless individuals with separate quarters for men, women and families.
The Emergency Shelter is the first door to finding a solution to homelessness. Homeless individuals and families in crisis come for a hot meal and a bed and then are talked to by case managers -- to identify their need and connect them to appropriate resources.
In addition to bed nights, the year-round Emergency Shelter Services Program provides:
* weekday breakfasts
* daily dinner meals
* grocery distribution
* counseling,
* mailbox and phone services
* showers
* vouchers for utilities and transportation
* laundry facilities.
The Shelter served 393 individuals in 2008 including nearly 50 children and their families. Thirty percent of these cients were successful in stabalizing their lives and becoming contributing citizens in society.
